What are the 3 things that interest you the most about consulting?
1) Focus on delivering value and seeing the impact of the work you've done personally
The whole value proposition of Consulting is that you get to solve complex challenges that add value to the client. And since this is the primary focus, the casework is structured in such a way that all efforts of the team will be valuable and not redundant. Hence, as a consultant I've never found myself working on something that's not useful or won't yield value. With the knowledge that the problems I'm personally solving are having a real impact and value, I find myself excited and motivated pretty much all the time.
Further, seeing the impact of your work come to life is probably the most professionally satisfying part of the job for me.
2) Working in diverse industries
One of the biggest benefits of working in consulting is the learning & development opportunity one gets by working in diverse industries. Large consulting firms work in pretty much every sector - such as Tech, Media, Finance, Industrial Goods, Consumer Goods, Healthcare, etc. I've personally managed to work with leading clients in Tech, Media, Healthcare, Automobiles, Logistics, Ministries and Shipbuilding in just two years. I rate L&D extremely high, and to have had the opportunity to work in and learn from these sectors is something I find extremely interesting and beneficial.
3) The travel & lifestyle opportunity
Not so much in this pandemic era, but consulting provides great opportunities to travel. As part of case work, a typical consultant will find themselves traveling to at least 10 cities annually both within the country as well as abroad. The airmiles and hotel points accumulated also allow them to essentially have fully expensed vacations as well.
